Chapel of BonesThis chapel is located in Evora, Portugal, a couple of hours east of Lisboa. It was built by Franciscan Monk in the 16th century. It's estimated to have consumed the bones from about 5000 skeletons collected from several dozen church cemetaries in the local area. The monks intent was to get people to reflect on the transitory nature of their lives. Mostly it just gave me the willies.
