Moorish CastleThis is the Moorish Castle of Sintra. It was originally built between the 9th and 10th century, although not much of the original construction remains. It began to be neglected in the 15th century when it lost most of its military significance and most people moved down the hill into 'Old Sintra.' In 1830 renovations were done by order of King Ferdinand II however, the Church of Saint Peter was intentionally left as it was found. I loved it. I reminded me of the swordfight scene at the beginning of "The Princess Bride." I'm not left handed either!

Church of Saint Peter - This is actually taken from inside the church, looking through one of the doors. Outside, you see a set of stairs for a small watch tower. At the base of the tower is a small tomb where some remains were reburied after they were found in the surrounding grounds. If you look closely, you can see a skull and cross bones. - Castle
