Jeronimos MonasteryThe Hieronymites Monastery was built in 1450. Vasco de Gama spent the night in prayer here, before departing for India in 1497. However, the structure as it exists today was finished in the late 16th century, taking some 50 years to complete. The ornateness of the limestone sculpture was truly amazing at this place.

As with many buildings I saw, the gargoyles are often downspots and when it rains, they vomit water violently. I think we've all had a saturday night like that. - mosteiros5
