This is the Grand Palace of Angkor Thom. The open spaces are littered with pieces of the ruins, waiting for the archaeologists to reassemble them. The grand palace itself is under heavy restoration as evidenced by the crane. This is a particularly difficult site to restore because when it changed from Hinduism to Buddhism (as most sites did in the area) major changes were made to the structure. So, now the archaeologists have to decide what parts to restore and to what era.
