The lines in Nazca were made hundreds of years ago by the indigenous people. It's not fully understood how or why they were made. The lines are visible because the larger darker pebbles have been swept to the side, exposing the lighter color sand underneath. The more well known lines for pictures of things like spiders, monkeys, birds, etc. But there are hundreds of lines that are just that: Super straight and precise lines that go on for miles.
