This is a terrace that is now used for crops other than rice (in fact, I don't know what this crop is). The mechanics of the terraces is quite interesting, as there is always some sort of plumbing going on. Water comes into the terrace from terraces above, then is diverted to other terraces below. Sometimes via small waterfalls, like the one pictured here, or sometimes with small aquaducts made from bamboo.
