Floating Fishing Villages

Outside the boundries of Halong Bay are many floating fish farm villages. People live out their lives on these floating shacks, growing various sea creatures for sale. Baskets are hung from bamboo grids kept afloat by styrofoam blocks (or anything else that floats). Mollusks like clams or mussels are then grown in these baskets. Where the water is shallow enough the baskets are simply placed on the seafloor. You can see both methods in the picture.
