Bangkok
- Wat Arun
This is a pretty representative shot from Wat Arun. The phrang to the left is one of the minor phrangs of Wat Arun. The chao phraya is just beyond with it's usualy throng of boat traffic. The brightly tiled roofs just beyond the river are the Grand Palace and Wat Pho (where the reclining buddha is). And in the far background is the Rama VII bridge. - Wat Arun
This is a temple that sits right on the Chao Phraya across from the Grand Palace and Wat Pho. Since you can climb most of the way up the main Phrang, it's a nice place to look over the river and the city. These some decorative figures about halfway up the main phrang. nearly all of the mosaic tile work comes from flat ware that is mass produced in Thailand and then broken into pieces. If you look closely, you might notice a few plates and bowls that are still whole. - Reclining Buddha
This is a close up of tow of the squares of the mother or pearl inlays on the bottoms of the feet of the reclining Buddha. - Reclining Buddha
The bottoms of the reclining Buddha's feet are decorated with extremely ornate mother or pearl inlays. - Reclining Buddha
This is the infamous reclining Buddha in Wat Pho. It is likely the one referred to in the song 'One Night in Bangkok'. - Rama VIII Bridge
This is a fairly new bridge in Bangkok, very close to my hotel. - Lumpini Park
- Jumbotron
This is the jumbotron on top of Baiyoke Tower II. It's used for advertising at night. Each round round globe is a 'pixel'. If you zoom in on the picture, you can see the colored LEDs that make up each pixel. - Interchange from Baiyoke Tower II
This is the view from the top of Baiyoke Tower II. This is a view of one of the interchanges on the new highway system in Bangkok. - Baiyoke Tower II and City Center buildings
Baiyoke Tower II is the tallest building in Thailand (background) and the 51st tallest in the world at 1000 feet. (The BMW ad is about 20 stories tall). The CityCenter building in the foreground is only about 7 years old. At night it's lit with color changing lights. - Panorama From Golden Mountain
Golden Mountain is a man-made hill in downtown Bangkok with a temple on top. It's a great place to get a view of the city.
