This was one of the main reasons I went to India. This is one of the many complexes of cave temples. That's actually a bit of a misnomer. They are entirely human made, which is to say, they are not natural caves. All of the sculpture and structure were carved directly from the rock in situ. It appeals to my sense of perfectionism.
- Cathedral Roof
- Buddha Sculpture
- Major Waterfall
This was the largest watefall at the site, however, there were no temples behind it. - Small Waterfall
This is at the 'beginning' of the cave system where a waterfall flows over the cave temples. - Buddhas
- Gallery
I really liked the lighting in this gallery of sculpture. - Colorful Sculpture
I liked the colors in this sculpture. As near as I could figure it, the colors come from a mixture of patches of the original paint, fungus/lichen, efflorescence and the stone itself. - Sculpture and Parrot
These Parrots are actually pretty common around India. - Cathedral Style Temple
- Inner Sanctum
- Small Temple
- Cave 16
This is probably the most famous 'Cave' at the site. As you can see, it's not really a cave at all, but more of a huge temple carved from the stone in place. It was beyond words.
