This is the ruins complex of Angkor. (Angkor Wat is actually only one sites within the entire complex). It's immense. And worth the trip. Everything there was built between the 9th and 13th century. Words can't describe it. Pictures get you about halfway there.

Angkor Wat in the background and one of the towers of Phnom Bakheng in the foreground. Phnom Bakheng is a 'temple mountain', having a temple built on top of a natural hill (in honor of the Hindu relevant 'Mount Meru'). It's one of the older sites in the Angkor area, built in the mid 9th century....a full 200 years before Angkor Wat. - Chau Say Tevoda
Chau Say Tevoda - Grand Palace
This is the Grand Palace of Angkor Thom. The open spaces are littered with pieces of the ruins, waiting for the archaeologists to reassemble them. The grand palace itself is under heavy restoration as evidenced by the crane. This is a particularly difficult site to restore because when it changed from Hinduism to Buddhism (as most sites did in the area) major changes were made to the structure. So, now the archaeologists have to decide what parts to restore and to what era.
